Sleek and sustainable bike park
Sustainable Design Award 2012 winner Vélopark elegantly marries sustainable development to design-savvy.
A Marion Steinmetz creation, this concept cycle park is made entirely from PET plastic and ordinary aluminium cans. The aluminium is used for the bike rack and the plastic for the planter.
It received the accolade for its eye-appeal and environmental qualities, but especially its public amenity value. It is a free-standing piece that can be sited in public places for general use and is usable by several people at once.
The product of recycling, it is itself recyclable, can quickly be put into industrial-scale manufacture and promotes environmentally-friendly transport.
This was the third year of the competition organized by Coca-Cola France in partnership with Néoplanète magazine.
The awards panel encourages creators to venture into "Upcycling" - turning waste into high quality, practical products that look good and help the environment.
This sustainable design award should give more recognition to young designers and professionals brimming with good ideas that support eco-design.
