A lighter car seat
In collaboration with Faurecia and Performance Materials Corporation (PMC), BASF has developed a car seat back based on new plastics technology.
For this project, BASF specially developed a grade of Ultramid® (polyamide) with the view of replacing the existing metal frame, by a single plastic section, thus limiting the amount of foam and trim required. The back weighs 20% less than that of a conventional car seat and is about 30 mm thinner, an important advantage when it comes to making vehicles lighter. Thanks to the possibilities offered by this material, it can combine comfort with modern high-quality design.
Room for creative freedom and an impression of more space.
