Aeklys, a ring unlike any other

At the CES 2018 trade fair in Las Vegas, recently-formed French company Icare Technologies presented a rather surprising new connected tool: Aeklys, a smart ring offering the possibility of making contactless payments, among others.

In the same way as with a bank card, a smart phone or a smart watch, the Smart Ring will also enable you to pay for your purchases. However, with the Smart Ring simply put on the ring, activate it using your smart phone, and place your finger near the payment terminal!

The ring has more tricks up its sleeve, and the start-up promises that it will be able to be used for many more applications, such as opening your front door, office or car door, as well as using public utility tickets: transport passes and concert tickets, for instance.
According to Icare Technologies: “AEKLYS is linked to a smart phone application that lets you manage and choose from among the 28 different and simultaneous uses that can be on-boarded on the ring. As a result, it will adapt to its users’ preferences and environments.”.

Obviously, the smart ring will be able to recognise its wearer’s identity, and removing will entirely deactivate its connected features. In this way, only the ring’s “official” wearer will be able to use it. The start-up also promises to make its ring more secure using a wave emission control system.
Made from plastic, the Aeklys should be sold at an affordable price. A ceramic version and a “luxury” version with precious stones are also in the pipeline.
