A young Californian start-up is gearing up for the launch of the Skully, the smart and connected full-face helmet of tomorrow.
The young company's project prioritises safety, in an area where it is a key concern. First and foremost, the Skully AR-1 helmet underwent all possible checks and received all possible certifications from American and European transport safety authorities. The helmet's aerodynamic outer shell is made from polycarbonate, its interior from EPS, and the visor receives an anti-fog and anti-scratch treatment. The visor is extremely high-tech and has been fitted with a Heads-Up Display (HUD) much like those used by fighter pilots. This technology, which has recently been incorporated in certain cars and on the Google Glass glasses, can show GPS-related information at eye-level. Most importantly, the screen can show a real-time view of what's going on behind thanks to a wide-angle camera attached to the back of the shell, like a rear-view mirror.

The Skully AR-1 is also fitted with an audio system in order to receive phone calls and listen to streaming music.
According to its founder, Marcus Weller, "the AR-1 will be the start of a new era in intelligent transportation by combining optics, intelligent on-board systems and connectivity to provide an unprecedented level of safety."
The helmet of the future has currently reached its goal on a crowd-funding platform and should be available to buy from May 2015.
